PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

"A Self-Publishing Journey: Sharing a Love of House Museums and the Stories They Tell"

Historic preservation is alive and well in Massachusetts. With over 200 house museums, you can’t go far without stumbling across one. Each house has a story to tell, from elaborate dinner parties held in the Phillips Mansion to a home given as a wedding present for a young 17th century couple on Nantucket. I’ll tell you some of my favorite stories from the houses I’ve visited. After visiting so many house museums, I decided to share that information by writing a book. Self-publishing looked like fun! So, I gave it a try. I’ll bring you through my publishing process from start to finish, the good, the bad and everything in between.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Marcia Young grew up in Framingham. She is a graduate of Georgetown University and Boston College Law School. She raised her family in Needham. When her children left for college, she rekindled her love of history by visiting many of the house museums that dot the landscape of Massachusetts and discovering the stories they hold. She is a self-published author. Her guidebook, Visit House Museums: Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard & Nantucket, is available on Amazon.
